Project Arrow (English) (francais) 2 VHS set (francais)
The Arrow tells the story of the passion, the betrayal and the players behind the building of the stunning fighter-interceptor jet constructed to defend Canada's vast territory during the Cold War. Cost over-runs, U.S. government intervention and Canadian political agendas grounded the Arrow before it had a fighting chance. a brash young team of designers at Avro Aircraft and their charismatic new president, Crawford Gorden (Dan Aykroyd) accept the RCAF challenge to create a radically advanced jet fighter-interceptor to defend Canada against powerful Soviet nuclear bombers capable of attacking over the North Pole. The Avro team races to break all performance records with the Arrow. But the dream begins to unravel in a dark and tragic tale of political ambition, international espionage, subversion and deceit.

Avro Arrow CF105… A Short History.  It was a plane 20 years ahead of its time, scrapped by a government that was out of touch with the times. Now the Arrow once again takes to the air. Compiled from rare film footage shot by Avro Aircraft this is a tribute to a great plane and to everyone who worked on her. See the Arrow from design through to its many test flights. Rare scenes include: design work, wind tunnel tests, test model flights, aircraft assemble, engine testing, taxi trials, the Arrow's first flight, beautiful shots of all five Arrows that were completed, and in the end, the Arrow's final destruction
Avro Arrow Original Footage Of The Canadian Icon.  Developed by A.V. Roe Canada Ltd. Of Malton, Ontario for Canadian defence, the CF-105 Avro Arrow was a long range, twin-engine, delta-wing, supersonic interceptor with a weapons bay larger than a B-29 bomber's. With a multitude of technological breakthroughs, it exhibited Canada's cutting-edge aerospace industry during the 1950's cold war era. As built, the Arrow was a remarkable achievement. It outperformed all fighter aircraft of its day at only 3/4 throttle and was not surpassed by any service aircraft of the world for more than 25 years. The PS 13 Iroquois engine, developed by the Orenda Engines division of A.V. Roe, proposed even better performance. Citing high cost and impending obsolescence, the Canadian government cancelled the Arrow and Iroqouis programs on February 20th, 1959; a day known to millions of Canadians as "Black Friday". It was discovered that cancellation of these programs was a condition for signing the Defence Production Sharing Agreement between Canada and the United States in 1959. As well, it cost more to cancel these programs than to complete the initial order of 37 aircraft. Since its demise, the Avro Arrow has been the subject of several books, university theses and even a feature movie. It has become an icon of what Canada was, is and might have been. Filmed by A.V. Roe during the Arrow and Iroquois programs, this video gives the viewer rare original footage of the real Avro Arrow.
