Zurakowski Park

Barry's Bay, Ontario, Canada

Over the Labour Day weekend of 2006, we took a couple of our grandkids camping near Algonquin Park at Barry's Bay.  For those who don't know, Janusz Zurakowski after he left the Arrow programme moved to Barry's Bay and built some camping cottages which he and his wife ran until he passed away.

The town of Barry's Bay have erected a statue of Janusz Zurakowski and a model of RL201 across from the Visitor's Centre.  The park is an "Arrow" shape and has been named Zurakowski Park. The next stage of their development is to construct a museum building on the site to showcase the Arrow.

In the meantime, funds are being raised by the sale of books and prints of the Arrow and Janusz. I did purchase a print of the Canadian Flag with Janusz in front with a ghost image of an Arrow, a pen and some bookmarks. During the weekend, Marik Kusiba, author of "a day in the life Janusz Zurakowski From Avro Arrow to Arrow Drive" was going to be present and sign copies of his book.  Unfortunately I was going to be inside Algonquin Park with my grandkids and would miss him.  We asked if there was a possibility that one could saved for me and I would pick it up on the Monday.  The lady looking after the display said that would work.  On Monday on my way home I stopped and she had a book that was personally autographed to me by Mark Kusiba!  This was a surprise and I once again thank this lady, who I forgot to write her name down.
