The original rollout ceremony for the Arrow was 5 October 1957 with
the rollout of RL201.
Since 1998, volunteers have been building a full size, non-flying
replica of RL203.Its rollout was held on 4 October for Toronto Aero
Museum members and former employees of AVRO . Then on
Saturday the 5, and 6 there were public displays. Fellow workers
and my Mother all asked if I knew about the rollout and if I would be
going up for it. The only day that was free was Thanksgiving Monday (Oct
7) so
we left home in the fog and headed for Toronto. Fortunately as the
morning progressed the fog lifted and turned into a beautiful day for a
drive with the top down on the car.
As an added bonus which I did not know about until we showed up at the
museum was that there was going to be a flight with a radio controlled
model from Team Arrow. I got to talk to who would be flying the
model and he told me they were able to get permission to fly the model
for four flights over the three days while other groups in the past were
not able to obtain permission. I can just imagine the red tape they went
through, not to mention the strict rules of flight they had to follow. I
wish I had had my handheld so I could have listened to the tower and
model team. It would have came in handy when a low flying twin
entered the airspace during the model flight, probably to take an aerial
photo of the Arrow replica.
